The History of Calvary Youth Football

Calvary Youth Football is a ministry of Calvary Baptist Church. It is a competitive youth football program that was begun in 2000. The motto of this program is "Laying Foundations in Young Men" based on I Corinthians 3:11 which says, "For no greater foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ".

Beginning with one team consisting of 23 players and 4 coaches, we committed to Christian mentoring of young men using the game of football.

God has truely blessed this program. We have seen it grow to become the largest youth football program in the region. At its peak, their were eighteen teams, over 350 players and almost 70 coaches.

In 2016 we had 13 teams and over 250 participants. We fielded four 5 & 6 year-old flag squads, one 7 year-old flag, two 8 year-old tackle, three 9 year-old tackle, one 10 year-old tackle, one 11 year-old tackle and one 12 year-old tackle team.

Teams participate in the Shreveport Public Assembly and Recreation (SPAR) league.

All teams enjoy successful seasons and make the playoffs each year. Many teams have participated in the City Championship or Junior Independence Bowl this season. Over the last seventeen years, the Cavs have amassed an impressive 40 City Championships.

More importantly than the championships experienced over our past 17 years are the many victories that have occurred off the field. By continually adhering to our mission statement “To lead young men and their families to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ through mentoring and instruction, utilizing the game of football” and constantly lifting up the Lord Jesus Christ, the lives of many children and families have been changed through this program. Calvary Youth Football truly is about “More than the Game!”.
