As Calvary Youth Football concludes its 17th Season we reflect on the many wonderful young men and families that have chosen to associate with our program. Only heaven knows the great potential and future accomplishments of the thousands boys who have sat under our coaches each fall since Calvary Youth Football began in 2000.
The opportunity to have an influence for Christ on tomorrow’s finest is an awesome responsibility and one that we take very seriously.
The directors and coaches begin preparing for the upcoming season as soon as the current season ends. This includes an extensive evaluation of the season as well as feedback from coaches, parents and participants.
The program is constantly seeking to improve itself year to year while maintaining its primary mission: TO INTRODUCE YOUNG MEN AND THEIR FAMILIES TO THE SAVING KNOWLEDGE OF JESUS CHRIST THROUGH MENTORING AND INSTRUCTION, UTILIZING THE GAME OF FOOTBALL.
CYF has become the largest and most dominant youth football program in this region for over almost two decades. However, rather than relying on our previous success, we attempt to thoroughly examine, evaluate and improve the product year to year.
As the reputation of CYF has grown, so has the demand for participation. In order to meet the demands of the community, we have partnered with many capable men who have stepped forward as volunteer coaches. In our best attempt to ensure that CYF provided a consistent and high quality product, CYF Coach Certification was begun in 2003. We attempt to effectively equip our coaches through a 3 step program which includes the following:
1. Interviewing with the Directors of CYF.
2. Attending the CYF Coaches Certification Clinic (held in the SPRING each year. Dates TBA.)
3. Participation in CYF Camp in June.
Typically 40-50 coaches participate in the CYF Coach Certification annually. This is required for all first time CYF Coaches.
Returning coaches participate in the CYF Continuing Coaches Education program that was begun in 2008. This coincides with the CYF Coaches Clinic and is held in comfortable surroundings with catered meals and snacks. Coaches listen to lectures, participate in demonstrations, drills and game video analysis. A syllabus for each coach and DVD training series for each staff are provided.
A final brief review of material is held a few days prior to CYF Camp each June to serves as a prelude to the camp's activities.
We believe this level of committment to place well-trained, competent Christian coaches in direct contact with players and parents distinguishes our program from any other. This requires an extensive amount of planning, preparation and participation,
Men, if you are considering becoming a CYF Coach, I guarantee you will not have a better opportunity to advance your training or have a better environment to coach in. Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org so we can get you started in the process!
Parents, if you are considering CYF for your child, we hope you appreciate the considerable commitment of time and effort we make to prepare the men who will teach your boys. We also hope you appreciate the amount of study, training and work put forth by these volunteer coaches, months before the season ever begins. Take the opportunity to encourage them any time you have the chance!
